David Weis - Broker Associate with Compass Real Estate
At the Desert Business Association, we are proud to spotlight members who help others navigate life's moments with confidence and care. This month, we are excited to feature David Weis, Broker Associate with Compass Real Estate, serving clients throughout Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley.
With three years in business and a lifelong connection to real estate, David brings both personal and professional insight into his work. His mom was a Realtor, and his husband is a developer, so real estate has always been part of his world. His diverse background includes roles as a Personal Banker at Chase, a Payroll Manager, and co-developing and managing The Cole Hotel.
Originally from Oregon, David has moved 53 times, giving him a unique understanding of what clients experience during relocation. This perspective allows him to guide buyers and sellers with empathy, clarity, and strategic insight.
David values a strong work ethic, thoughtful branding, and innovative marketing. He focuses on helping clients make informed decisions and ensuring every step is handled with professionalism and care.
We asked David a few questions in order to get to know him better:
What inspired you to start your business, and what makes it unique in the Coachella Valley?
I built a background in finance and operations. I later co-developed The Cole Hotel with my husband and managed it as General Manager for a year and a half, where I focused on operations, guest experience, and maintaining a five-star standard, an experience that naturally led me into real estate.
How do you support or engage with the LGBTQ+ community and the greater Coachella Valley?
My business is rooted in community involvement, especially within the LGBTQ+ community. I serve as a Chapter Leader for Gay for Good in San Diego. I’m involved with the Front Runners clubs in both Palm Springs and San Diego.
My husband and I host an annual holiday toy drive to support LGBTQ+ families. I also serve as a board member for the Vista Las Palmas Neighbors Foundation and participate in ONE-PS initiatives.
What has been one of your biggest learning experiences as a business owner so far?
Understanding the importance of balance. It’s easy to get lost in your work, but I’ve learned not to take my health and my family for granted.
What advice would you give to someone starting a business today, especially in our region?
Treat your business like a long-term investment. Be mindful of your spending, invest in learning, and master your craft. Surround yourself with the right people, and document everything, strong systems are what allow you to grow successfully.
Why is being part of the Desert Business Association important to you?
I believe in the power of community and connection, having a network that supports, uplifts, and creates opportunities for one another is invaluable.
What does being an LGBTQ+ or allied business owner mean to you personally?
Leading with integrity, inclusivity, and authenticity, and create an environment where clients feel comfortable and understood.
What is one local business you admire or love to support?
I love Road Runner Print and Ship. You can genuinely feel their excitement and care about everything they do. They even helped make my wedding special, so supporting them has always felt personal to me.
What is your favorite thing about doing business in the Coachella Valley?
The lifestyle and the people.
One word that describes your business.
Relationship-driven
Coffee, tea, or something stronger?
Coffee for the mornings, and something stronger after a long day or a big win.
