We spoke with Pieter Van Winkel, Resident Experience Coordinator at Revel Palm Desert, an independent senior living community that opened in March 2018, offering residents an engaging, supportive environment built around connection, comfort, and choice.
 
In his role, Pieter focuses on enhancing residents' daily lives by fostering strong relationships, meaningful experiences, and a sense of belonging.

Tell us a little bit about Revel and what makes it unique in the Coachella Valley?
Revel Communities is a portfolio of twelve communities across the Western U.S. Palm Desert is a perfect location for us, with resort-style living and dynamic people looking to thrive in a beautiful setting.
 
How does your business support or engage with the LGBTQ+ community and the greater Coachella Valley?
 We are committed to fostering an inclusive, welcoming environment for all. We actively engage with the LGBTQ+ community and the greater Coachella Valley through partnerships, local organizations, events, and community involvement.
 
What has been one of your biggest learning experiences here in the Coachella Valley?
The value of deep community connection. Being actively engaged in the Coachella Valley, listening, partnering, and showing up, has strengthened both our business and the experience we provide residents.
 
What does being an LGBTQ+ or allied business owner mean to you personally?
It means being intentional about creating spaces where people feel safe, respected, and valued for who they are. Inclusion isn’t just a statement; it’s reflected in everyday actions and decisions.
  
What does a typical day look like for you as a business owner?
No two days are the same. My days typically include connecting with residents, supporting our team, collaborating with partners, and making sure our community continues to deliver an exceptional experience.
